Get ready for a week of exciting experiments, discoveries, and hands-on science fun at Korumburra Secondary College’s Brain Seeds Bonanza! As part of National Science Week, our whole-school program for Years 7–10 will bring the theme “Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All” to life through engaging STEM activities that inspire curiosity and creativity.
Year 7 – Hygiene and Food Science Adventures Students will investigate how science keeps us healthy through interactive workshops on dairy transformation, food contamination, and hygiene. From turning milk into new products to exploring how germs spread, students will discover why science is essential for everyday wellbeing.
Year 8 students will explore the science behind farming and the environment by working with local industry partners from South Gippsland. They’ll learn how scientific knowledge helps create sustainable agricultural practices that protect our land and future food supply.
Our Year 9 students will become science mentors as they design and deliver a fun, hands-on Science Interactive Expo for local primary students. Through experiments, demonstrations, and inquiry activities, they’ll help “plant seeds” of curiosity and excitement about science in younger learners.
Year 10 students will dive into the world of chemical energy with an engaging incursion featuring live demonstrations and student-led flame tests. They’ll see science in action with a spectacular fireworks demonstration presented by a licensed pyrotechnic, linking classroom theory to real-world applications.
The Brain Seeds Bonanza is more than just a science week—it’s a chance for students to:
Ask questions and explore new ideas
Work together and share their learning
Connect science to real-world careers and industries
Build confidence in STEM subjects
Strengthen connections between school and the local community
By making science fun, accessible, and relevant, this event encourages every student to grow their knowledge and imagine exciting futures in STEM.
