Saltmarsh Secrets is an interactive, hands-on citizen science event to be delivered during National Science Week 2026 at the Wetlands Walkabout on Keeley’s Road.
Hosted by Pioneer Catchment Landcare, this event will engage the Mackay community and schools in real-world environmental science by guiding participants through a saltmarsh survey. Attendees will actively add to data collection while learning how coastal wetlands support biodiversity, protect shorelines, and store carbon.
The project is designed to make science accessible, practical, and relevant, particularly for regional communities and individuals who may not typically engage with STEM.
