Have you ever wondered what plants need to grow? During National Science Week, students at St Christopher's Primary School will become real scientists as they transform seeds into a living STEM laboratory.
In this hands-on event, students across multiple year levels will design, build and plant a new garden bed while investigating how different environmental conditions affect plant growth. Students will make predictions, ask questions and conduct experiments to explore how factors such as soil, water and sunlight influence living things.
Working as "Garden Scientists", students will collect data, measure growth, record observations and compare results. They will use scientific thinking to solve problems and discover how plants depend on their environment to survive and thrive.
The excitement won't end when National Science Week finishes. The garden will become a permanent outdoor STEM learning space where students can continue their investigations throughout the year. Future classes will monitor changes across the seasons, conduct new experiments and build on the discoveries made during Science Week.
The school community will be invited to support the project, helping students see how science connects to everyday life. By combining science, technology, engineering and mathematics in a real-world setting, Seed to Scientist will inspire curiosity, creativity and a lifelong interest in STEM.
Come and watch our young scientists grow their knowledge from seed to scientist!
