Little Scientists, Big Impact - Exploring Our World Through STEM

  • From
  • Dungog Community Preschool
Chapman street, Dungog, NSW 2420, Australia

Get ready to explore, create and discover! This National Science Week, curiosity will lead the way as children become young scientists, engineers and environmental stewards at Dungog Community Preschool.

Through exciting hands-on STEM experiences, children will investigate the natural world and learn how science helps us care for our environment. Using play-based inquiry, they will design and build mini bush tucker gardens, explore how sunlight, water and soil help plants grow, and create mini waterways using natural and recycled materials to discover how water moves and changes direction.

Children will ask questions, make predictions, test ideas and solve problems as they experiment and refine their creations. They will observe changes over time, record their thinking through drawings and conversations, and work together to overcome design challenges.

Learning experiences will also include compost exploration, soil investigations, and simple engineering activities such as constructing plant supports and garden structures. Indigenous perspectives will be woven throughout the program as children explore native plants, their traditional uses and connections to Country.

National Science Week at Dungog Community Preschool encourages children to think creatively, build confidence through discovery and develop an understanding of sustainability and food systems in meaningful, real-world ways.
