Mirniyan Primary School, Clyde North, VIC 3178, Australia

Get ready to grow, discover and explore during National Science Week at Mirniyan Primary School!

This year, our students will become real scientists as we transform part of our school into a living outdoor laboratory. Inspired by the 2026 theme “Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All,” students will investigate how plants grow, how ecosystems work and why biodiversity is important for our environment.

Throughout the week, students will lead hands-on STEM activities including planting indigenous and pollinator-friendly plants, building bird and bat nesting boxes and creating a community seed library to encourage families to grow plants and vegetables at home. Students will also take part in scientific investigations by observing insects, measuring plant growth and collecting biodiversity data.

Families and community members will be invited to join us for interactive science activities and help support the creation of our new biodiversity learning space. Students will share their learning and encourage others to care for the environment through sustainability and citizen science.

This exciting project will help grow curiosity, creativity and a love of STEM while creating a greener, more biodiverse future for our school and community.
