Boynewood State School, Boynewood, QLD 4626, Australia

Get ready for a week of exploding experiments, creative challenges and hands-on science fun at the Boynewood Bush Science Expo!

During National Science Week 2026, students from Prep to Year 6 will become scientists, engineers and inventors as they explore how science connects to life in our rural community. Students will work in mixed-age teams to investigate exciting STEM challenges through hands-on activities and experiments.

Throughout the week, students will:
• Build and test balloon rockets to explore forces and motion
• Design and construct bridges using simple materials
• Create water filtration systems and investigate how clean water is made
• Explore soil health, plants and agricultural science
• Conduct colourful chemical reactions, density experiments and lava lamps
• Record predictions, observations and results using tables, diagrams and photos

Older students will take on leadership roles by helping younger students complete investigations and explaining the science behind each activity. Students will learn how to ask questions, test ideas, solve problems and share their discoveries with others.

The week will finish with the Boynewood Science Expo, where families and community members are invited to visit the school and explore student investigations, displays and interactive science challenges. Visitors will have the chance to join in experiments, ask questions and celebrate student learning.

The Boynewood Bush Science Expo aims to inspire curiosity, teamwork and creativity while showing students that science is everywhere — from the paddock and plants to water, motion and engineering. This exciting event will help build a love of STEM learning and encourage students to keep exploring the world around them.
