This proposal introduces a unique, one night field experience designed specifically for Science Week, enabling Year 10 Earth and Environmental Science students to investigate real-world water systems within Litchfield National Park.
Students will engage in hands-on fieldwork, collecting and analysing data to assess water quality and explore the environmental factors that influence natural water sources. Through guided inquiry, they will examine variables such as pH, turbidity, temperature, and biological indicators, linking classroom theory to authentic scientific practice.
This immersive experience is designed to foster scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and environmental stewardship. By working in a remote and ecologically significant setting, students will develop practical skills in data collection, teamwork, and field safety while gaining a deeper appreciation of Australia’s unique ecosystems.
As a special Science Week initiative, this program offers a rare opportunity to extend learning beyond the classroom, creating a memorable and meaningful connection to science that supports curriculum outcomes and inspires future engagement in environmental science.
