Science in the Scrub returns to Western Sydney Parklands this National Science Week — bringing a full day of fun, discovery and hands-on science to Lizard Log on 23 August 2026.

Join us for a FREE day out where open grasslands and bushland become Western Sydney’s biggest outdoor lab.

For the first time, the UNSW SciFest Village takes over part of Science in the Scrub, with scientists stepping out of their labs to showcase experiments, interactive challenges, microscopes, chemistry in action and real research you can see, try and explore.

Right alongside it, Meet a Scientist puts you face-to-face with the people behind the discoveries. Ask questions, hear what they are working on and discover the science shaping our world through direct, hands-on experiences.

The First Nations Science Village, delivered with the National Indigenous Science Education Program (NISEP), brings together Aboriginal scientists and educators to share knowledge grounded in the world’s oldest continuing cultures. Through workshops, demonstrations and conversations, visitors can explore the connections between cultural knowledge, contemporary science and caring for Country.

Crowd favourite Australoventor Ginger, the life-sized dinosaur, returns alongside live science shows and interactive experiences running throughout the day. Visitors can explore marine science through the pop-up Ocean Lab, get hands-on with robotics and engineering challenges, meet native animals, discover frogs and insects up close, and take part in recycling, bush food and environmental science activities.

Science in the Scrub is free, outdoors and easy to explore at your own pace.
