Join us for the Science Quest of Sound— Science Week at Hinchinbrook Shire Library.

Ready to be a scientist? On your quest you’ll explore the science of sound! Grab your map and follow the clues with a curious mind as you ride the waves of sound that travel through the air to your ears.

Learn how Thomas Edison invented the phonograph, Alexander Graham Bell developed the telephone, even earlier, Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton studied how waves work and help explain that sound moves in patterns through air. Their ideas helped later inventors design better instruments, speakers, and technology.

You’ll learn how scientists see what’s too small for our eyes and how bats use sonar, then put your skills to the test in hands-on experiments.

Make a prediction, try it out, and see what you discover. Let's try:

  • Exploring sound waves with Spoons
  • Make a String Phone
  • Watch rice dance with sound
  • Milk Carton Guitars
