Register An Event

This form lets you register your event on the National Science Week website. Registering helps get the word out about your event and helps us measure the overall impact of Science Week.

Anyone can run a National Science Week event! National Science Week events should:

  • Relate to science or STEM
  • Be accessible to at least some people in Australia (although events don't need to be open/accessible to everyone- they can target a specific group)
  • Be held during the month of August, preferably between 15 Aug 2026 - 23 Aug 2026.

A public event that members of the public can attend (it could be free, or ticketed)

A private event where attendance is by invitation only

What sort of public event are you registering?

An in-person public event that can be found with a general search on the National Science Week website and that members of the public can attend. It may also have a virtual attendance option or be recorded for viewing online later. These can be free or ticketed events.

A virtual public event that members of the public can only be attend virtually/online, and can be found with a general search on the National Science Week website. These can include online events live streamed at a specific time, or on-demand events with recordings available to stream any time, e.g. podcasts released during August that relate to Science Week. These can be free or ticketed events.

A competition that could be open to everyone, or a specific audience e.g. school students.

A public Brain Break event. This allows you to register to access Brain Break materials, including science trivia and simple activities, to hold an event that members of the public can join, e.g. at a local Library. These events can be found with a general search on the National Science Week website.

A public SCINEMA screening. This allows you to register for a link to films from the SCINEMA film festival to watch in a venue where members of the public can attend, e.g. at a local Library. These events will be listed on the National Science Week website so members of the public can see them and attend.

A public pub-trivia event. This allows you to register for a link to our bank of National Science Week pub trivia questions that you can use at public pub trivia events during August. These events will be listed on the National Science Week website so members of the public can see them and attend.

What sort of private event are you registering?

A private in-person event that can be attended by invitation-only e.g. a science fair just for school students. These events are searchable on the National Science Week website if someone manually choses to include private event listings in their search, or if the event organiser sends them a direct link to the event listing. These can be free or ticketed events.

A private Brain Break event. This allows you to register to access Brain Break materials, including science trivia, to conduct in your school or workplace. These events are searchable on the National Science Week website if someone manually choses to include private event listings in their search, or if the event organiser sends them a direct link to the event listing.

A private SCINEMA screening. This allows you to register for a link to films from the SCINEMA film festival to watch in your home, school or workplace that you do not want members of the public to join (i.e. are just for you). These events are searchable on the National Science Week website if someone manually choses to include private event listings in their search, or if the event organiser sends them a direct link to the event listing.

A private pub-trivia event. This allows you to register for a link to our bank of National Science Week pub trivia questions that you can use to host pub-style trivia at home or in your workplace. These events are searchable on the National Science Week website if someone manually choses to include private event listings in their search, or if the event organiser sends them a direct link to the event listing.

Note that your image will automatically cropped, so please ensure that the most important content is in the centre as the edges of your image may be lost.

If you want the media to cover your event, please provide as much of the following information and resources as you can. We pass this on to interested journalists through our publicity program.

  • Tell us who is available for media interviews (event speakers, scientists, ambassadors, etc). Links to their online profiles are also useful.
  • Provide information on interesting things that can be photographed or filmed (photo opportunities), such as drone demonstrations or exploding watermelons.
  • In addition to your main event image, please provide a Dropbox link for other images or footage we can make available for media to use or use in social media posts through National Science Week’s official channels. Only provide files you have copyright permission to share. No stock photos.
  • If you have a dedicated publicist, include their name and contact details. This information will be passed on to the National Science Week publicist.
