A Bush Tucker garden will be established as a long-term, sustainable resource to support STEM learning across PP-Year 6. Plants grown in the garden will be incorporated into lessons to provide hands-on learning opportunities.
Students will investigate the structure and function of plant components, including leaf shape, texture, and adaptations to the local environment. The garden will also support sensory-based learning experiences, allowing students to explore the smell, taste, and texture of native plants. Additionally, students will conduct simple experiments using materials grown in the garden, such as observing plant growth, testing soil conditions, and exploring how different environmental factors affect plant health.
Through these activities, the Bush Tucker garden will enhance STEM engagement by connecting scientific concepts to real-world applications, while also integrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge of native plants.
