Plant an Idea, Grow a Scientist!
What happens when curious primary school students team up with passionate high school STEM mentors? An exciting day of discovery, creativity and hands-on science!
To celebrate National Science Week 2026 and this year's theme, Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All, STEM student leaders from Nerang State High School will visit Gilston State School to deliver a day of interactive STEM workshops. Just like a seed grows into something amazing, every great scientific idea starts with curiosity.
Students will choose from a range of hands-on activity stations exploring science, technology, engineering and mathematics. They might design, build, test, investigate or solve problems as they work alongside high school mentors who will guide and support them throughout the day.
This event is all about learning by doing. Students will ask questions, try new ideas, work together and discover how science helps us understand and improve the world around us. Along the way, they will build confidence, make connections with older students and see where their own STEM journey could take them in the future.
By bringing primary and secondary students together, this event will help grow a love of science, develop future leaders and show that everyone can be a scientist when they are given the chance to explore, create and wonder.
