Seeds of Science – From Garden Beds to Space at Keelonith Primary School

Keelonith Primary School, Greenvale, VIC 3059, Australia

Have you ever wondered how a tiny seed grows into a plant? Or how astronauts might grow food on the Moon or Mars? Join us for an exciting Science Week adventure as we explore the amazing world of seeds and plants!

Students will become scientists as they investigate what plants need to grow. Through hands-on experiments, they will test how light, water and soil affect plant growth and learn about the challenges of growing plants in space. They will make predictions, collect data, observe changes and share their discoveries.

As part of our whole-school celebration, students will work together to plant seeds in our school fairy garden. Before planting, we will improve our garden beds and investigate which flowers grow best during winter in Melbourne. Students will learn about sustainability, biodiversity and the important role plants play in supporting life on Earth.

This event combines science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with outdoor learning, creativity and teamwork. By connecting classroom investigations with a real garden project, students will see how science can help solve real-world challenges, from growing food locally to supporting future space exploration.

Come and help us plant the seeds of curiosity, discovery and future STEM learning!
