What happens in our kindergarten after dark?
Join us for Night Science at Sherwood Kindergarten as children share their discoveries about the animals that visit our outdoor environment at night.
Over the past few months, children have helped install three Hollow Log Homes designed for small parrots, ringtail and brushtail possums, and antechinus. During National Science Week, children will use wildlife cameras and UV torches to investigate which animals and insects are using these habitats and explore the differences between daytime and nighttime life in our kindergarten environment.
Throughout the project, children will observe, record and discuss their findings through drawings, photographs and conversations. They will learn about local wildlife, habitats, biodiversity and Indigenous perspectives on caring for Country.
Our Night Science event will give children the opportunity to share what they have learned with their families. Together we will explore the outdoor environment, view wildlife images captured by our cameras, use UV torches to look for nocturnal insects and hear children's theories about who might be living in the hollows.
This event is for current Sherwood Kindergarten families, with past families also welcome to attend. It is an opportunity to celebrate children's scientific thinking, curiosity and connection with the natural world while exploring what happens in our environment after the sun goes down.
