Get ready to blast off into science at Yarralin School!

We’re heading outside the classroom and onto Country for an exciting Learning on Country adventure all about animal adaptations, habitats, and how living things survive in the bush. This is part of our Science Week celebration, where students from all year levels will explore, experiment, and discover how science connects with our Land and culture.

We’ll be learning why some animals have thick fur, sharp claws, or can hide so well in the trees. We’ll investigate how the billabong changes during the dry season and what that means for the animals living there.

But that’s not all—we’ll also be doing hands-on STEAM experiments (that means Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths!). We’ll launch exploding rockets, build bubble bridges, design water filters using natural materials, and test how animals stay warm by trying out a blubber glove experiment.

We’ll use mud maps and iPads to record what we find, and even try building mini shelters like animals do. Students will get to test soil types, observe insects up close, and create animal track casts to take home.

It’s going to be messy, exciting, and full of learning. We can’t wait to explore, investigate, and connect with our Country in a whole new way!
