STEM Mayhem Day is back for its fourth year at Malanda State School—bigger, bolder, and bursting with creativity! Led by passionate STEM teacher Greg Lanyon and proudly supported by the Malanda community and P&C Association, this year’s theme invites students to explore the universe through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics—guided by the hidden language of nature found in patterns, symbols, and design.
The day will feature a special visit from Leonardo Da Vinci, who will step out of history to reveal how art and science are deeply connected. He’ll be joined by Professor Mess, bringing wild experiments and laughter, and the ever-popular Sticky, performing a special song written just for the day to spark imagination and wonder.
Students will rotate through exciting, age-appropriate STEM stations. Many activities will use art as a bridge to science, thanks to fabulous resources that help students visualise complex concepts through colour, rhythm, symmetry, and more. From fractals and sound waves to forces and balance, every activity is hands-on and designed to engage, challenge, and inspire.
Inclusivity is central to the day, with every student supported to participate and thrive. Parents and community members are warmly invited to attend the opening celebrations and experience the energy and creativity of STEM in action.
STEM Mayhem Day 2025 is more than just a school event—it’s a celebration of curiosity, creativity, and the power of students to decode the world around them.
