This National Science Week, join us on an epic voyage of discovery as we delve into the legend of St. Brendan the Navigator! For centuries, stories have been told of his incredible journey across the Atlantic – did he really sail to uncharted lands, encountering sea monsters, crystal columns, and even islands made of ice?

Our STEAM Challenge invites young explorers and aspiring inventors to put their Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics skills to the test! Inspired by St. Brendan's legendary adventures, students will tackle exciting challenges that explore the science of sailing, the art of mapmaking, the engineering of boat design, and the mathematics of navigation.

What will you discover?

• Design & Build: Can you create a boat that floats and carries cargo, just like St. Brendan's currach? Experiment with different materials and shapes to find the ultimate design!

• Navigate the Seas: Learn about compasses, stars, and early navigation techniques. Can you plot a course and guide your "ship" through an imaginary ocean?

• Mysterious Creatures & Habitats: What kind of amazing creatures might St. Brendan have encountered? Use your creativity to design and describe fantastical (or real!) sea life and their underwater homes.

• The Power of the Wind: Explore how wind power propels a boat and even build your own mini-wind-powered device.
