Our inaugural Science Spectacular at ATC is a week-long celebration of science across our Year 4–12 college during National Science Week (Week 5, QLD School Calendar) aligning with the 2025 theme “Decoding the Universe.” Each day at lunchtime, students will experience exciting and hands-on science activities designed to ignite curiosity and foster a love of STEM.

Monday kicks off with Freaky Freezing Fun, where science teachers demonstrate the wonders of liquid nitrogen.

On Tuesday, students will rotate through a Science Experiment Round Robin, engaging with classic demonstrations like the iodine clock, flaming hands, Make Your Own Lip Balm, dissecting chicken feet, and sodium acetate supersaturation—led by staff and our passionate Year 11 Science Ambassadors.

Thursday’s highlight will be a full-school gathering to witness Year 11 and 12 students launch oxygen-methane rockets and explosive toothpaste.

The week will conclude with a Science Show for Grade 4, where our ambassadors perform crowd-favourites like elephant toothpaste, vanishing beaker and whoosh bottles, finishing with liquid nitrogen ice cream.

This initiative fosters leadership, builds cross-year connections, and makes science thrillingly visible in our school community.
