Science is awesome and so are People with Disabilities.
GG's Flowers has joined the Science Alliance to present a week of hands-on activities that are open to all level of abilities, but which are specially created for people with intellectual and cognitive disabilities, and other neurodiversity. GG's Flowers is the home of Rainbow Roses, and this Science Week, GG's and Science Alliance will provide fun science activities to demonstrate how rainbow roses are created. All activities will be co-presented by young people with disabilities.
All activities will be held at GG's Flowers, Shop 3A Farrer Place, Farrer 2607; 11th-15th August. Here's a sneak peak:
Mon: Capillary Pressure - We make models of the cells inside plants and show the explosive strength of capillary pressure (yes - there will be explosions).
Tues: Controlling Colours - For those who prefer the quieter side of science, we show different ways of controlling colours in plants. There is a chance for everyone to create some beautiful patterns.
Wed: Physical and Chemical Changes - Back for more explosions - this time to show the difference between chemical changes and physical changes.
Thurs: From Botany to Botanist - Most of GG's botanists are neurodiverse. They invite you to join them in the games and activities they use to develop the dexterity on co-ordination needed to create rainbow roses.
Fri: The grand finale will present a mixed of everything presented in the last 4 days.
