Join us in Barcaldine for the second stop of our travelling launch of National Science Week 2025, celebrating the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in
the heart of Central Queensland.
Set at The Globe, a beautifully restored heritage building once known as “the workers’ pub,” this venue has been transformed into a vibrant cultural and visitor hub. Built in 1910, The Globe played a central role in Barcaldine’s social life and now houses the History on Oak exhibition and Galilee Gallery, showcasing the town’s rich past and creative future.
Barcaldine itself is steeped in history as the birthplace of the Australian Labour Party, sparked by the 1891 Shearers’ Strike under the iconic Tree of Knowledge, just a short walk from The Globe. This legacy of activism and innovation makes Barcaldine a fitting place to celebrate science and community.
