Introduction to Snowy Hydro’s Powering Up the Future Competition

  • - (AEST)

How would your students help to build a future powered by sustainable energy this National Science Week?️

Get your students dreaming big with Snowy Hydro’s Powering Up the Future competition, a national challenge for clever thinkers in Years 3 to 12 to imagine bold, brilliant solutions for Australia’s sustainable energy future.

Imagine it’s the year 2050. You wake up in your home, head to school, or walk through your community – everything runs smarter, cleaner, and more efficiently. How did we get there?

This year's task: As a Snowy Hydro futurist, it is your mission to invent a bold new idea, technology, or system that helps save or reuse energy to lower emissions.

  • Could a stadium full of cheering fans power an entire suburb?
  • Could super-bricks keep homes warm without heaters?
  • Could outdoor classrooms help cut school emissions?

There are no limits to what your students can create and up to $3,000 in prizes is up for grabs for students and schools!

Access this session from the start of national science week. Submissions require the student's invention via video or poster alongside an explanation between Monday 4 August and Sunday 28 September 2025. See the Powering Up the Future FAQs for more information.
