Orelia Primary Science Week

Science Week at Orelia Primary was packed with excitement, curiosity, and creativity! This year’s theme was “Decoding the Universe – Exploring the Unknown with Nature’s Hidden Language,” and every student from Kindy to Year 6 got involved. For the big Science Fair, students in Years 3 to 6 worked solo or teamed up in pairs to create amazing projects, with a first prize awarded in each year level. Meanwhile, our littlest scientists in Kindy to Year 2 joined a colourful colouring-in competition based on the theme—yes, there were prizes too!

Each block of the school turned into a science zone! Kindy and Pre-Primary students went on a nature hunt using checklists, magnifying glasses, and paper bags to collect cool items like leaves and twigs. They used their treasures to make awesome collages. Year 1 and 2 explored patterns in nature, collecting items and using paint, pencils, and crayons to create beautiful art by rubbing and colouring over them. Year 3 and 4 became secret agents, writing hidden messages with lemon juice and revealing them with heat. Year 5 and 6 made butterflies that could camouflage around the school and played a fun hide-and-seek game to find them.

To make Science Week even more exciting, our school will be purchasing a recycling brick machine! This clever machine will help us reuse scrap paper by turning it into solid bricks, which we can then sell at school. It’s a great way to help the environment and learn about sustainability in action.

The week ended with a whole-school assembly where we celebrated everyone’s creativity, shared our discoveries, and announced the winners. It was a week full of wonder, learning, and fun—just the way science should be!
