Science Week 2025: Patterns & Codes in Nature
This year, students across all year levels will explore the amazing patterns and hidden codes in the natural world. Through hands-on activities linked to physics, maths, and biology, students will discover how nature organises itself—from the symmetry of butterflies to the spirals of sunflowers and the complexity of fractals.

Foundation – Year 2: The Science of Symmetry
Students will explore symmetry in butterfly wings, snowflakes, and leaves. They’ll create fold-paper symmetry art using paint blots and try simple mirror experiments to see how reflection creates balance in nature.

Years 3–4: Nature’s Secret Code – Fibonacci Fun
Students will investigate the Fibonacci sequence and its appearance in flowers, pinecones, and seashells. They’ll create spiral art using seeds and fingerprints, and build sequences using LEGO or blocks.

Years 5–6: Cracking Nature’s Code with Fractals
Older students will explore fractals—repeating patterns found in trees, lightning, and rivers. They’ll create art using Sierpinski triangles and Koch snowflakes and use digital tools to simulate fractal growth.

Lunch-Time Activities
Tuesday: Crack the Code Challenge – Match animal tracks and explore First Nations footprint storytelling.
Thursday: Nature’s Sound Waves & Frequencies – Explore sound with tuning forks and Chladni’s Plates to see sound patterns come to life.

Science Week 2025 will inspire curiosity as students uncover nature’s patterns and the beautiful codes that shape our world!
