The Mount Gambier Science Fair is all about ENGAGEMENT. We want children to join an electric circuit which causes a light to flash or the speaker to play happy birthday!
We want them to make a paper rotocopter that spins just like a helicopter.
We want them to clap and shout during a chemistry science show that has fire, froth and bubbles.
We want them to experience virtual reality and explore the mysteries of the night sky in SciWorld’s StarLab.
We want them to get up close to native wildlife and learn more about them and why conservation efforts are so important.
We want them to ‘have a go’ at steering a robotic device in a way that gives them confidence to engage with technology. Most of all we want them to come away from the science fair saying ‘Science is Fun’ and asking their teachers the next day if they can do more science!
The event itself is divided into two three-hour sessions (9.30am – 12.30pm and 1.00pm-4.00pm) so that as many families as possible can participate.
The main attraction will be fabulous science shows (chosen from Science Collective members including Prof Flint, Animals Anonymous, SciWorld & SciFiBri). There will be three 30-minute science shows per session.
Other key attractions will be a robotics challenge, a virtual reality experience offered by IgniteVR, a UniSA info booth and a raft of hands-on science activities that involve rotocopters, O-wings rockets, pinwheels, bridge building, electric circuit building and more. A ‘toddler’s corner’ will providing sensory experiences for the youngest visitors.
