Mentoring Event for Early-Career and Future Scientists

  • -
  • - (AEST)
When I started my career in laboratory medicine, I thought the unknown was only found in faraway galaxies. Now I know that some of the greatest adventures happen within us — hidden in our blood, cells, and genes.

I’m inspired by those who dared to ask, "What if?" and went on to change the world. Their work has given us cancer treatments, safe blood transfusions, insulin for diabetes, vaccines that save millions of lives, and the discovery of microRNA, which is opening new possibilities in how we understand and treat disease. Without these breakthroughs, the life we know today would be unimaginable.

From laboratory medicine, to a Master’s degree, to a PhD, and into research that brings new discoveries into daily pathology practice, I have a journey in STEM that I love to share with people. Mentees ask about my experiences, my international work, my presentations and awards, my role in biomarker discoveries, and the skills that helped me stay resilient, lead teams, and mentor others. These are personal questions that deserve personal answers.

Dr. Anila Hashmi is dedicating time during National Science Week to mentor early-career and future scientists.

  • Who Can Join: Aspiring scientists, laboratory medicine professionals, and researchers.
  • What to Expect: Personalized Q&A sessions, career advice, and exploration of scientific possibilities.
