Look to the Stars – Stargazing and Stellaris Exhibition Viewing

  • - (AEST)
  • Multi-Arts Pavilion (MAP mima) - Speers Point Park
96 Creek Reserve Road, Speers Point NSW 2284, Australia

Lake Mac STEAM brings two stargazing events as part of Look to the Stars.

In MAP mima...

Stellaris is an immersive 360-degree projection work by Ryan Wild, offering a visually stunning and contemplative journey through the solar system and beyond. It presents the planets in orbit, revealing their scale, composition, and place within the larger structure of our galaxy.

The work blends scientific storytelling with poetic sound design to create an experience that is both educational and meditative. Highlights include a focus on Jupiter and its moons, Galileo’s historic discoveries, constellations, and the unique position of Pluto and the Kuiper Belt.

  • MAP mima will be open for the exhibition viewing 5 - 9pm.
  • An exhibition launch and talk will occur at 6pm. Places are limited.

In Speers Point Park...

Join the Newcastle Astronomical Society, as they point their telescopes to the sky above Lake Macquarie for a night of stargazing.

Learn how to navigate your way to the Milky Way and beyond, as the society members share their love, enthusiasm and knowledge of all things stars and the universe with you.

The star-gazing component of this event is weather-dependent. Please register your interest, and you will be notified via email if stargazing is cancelled or rescheduled

This is a free event open to people of all ages from 5 to 9:30 pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring a torch to navigate the park after dark

This Inspiring Australia NSW initiative is supported by the Australian Government as part of National Science Week.
