Haasts Bluff School are having a “Science Camp”. This will involve students from nearby, Luritja/Pintupi speaking schools (M'Bunghara, Papunya, Watiyawanu, Walungurru, Areyonga) coming to camp overnight and working collaboratively to engage in hands-on, practical science activities, which will utilise ideas from the Two-Way Science book (CSIRO) and the ASTA resource books around caring for country, such as ‘Decoding Animal Prints’ and ‘Tracking’; creating sustainable mini-ecosystems in terrariums; investigating the importance of mini-beasts to local ecosystems,
popular bush foods, and their role in dreaming stories; and a night time viewing of the night sky to find the seven sisters and their relationship to traditional local stories. The activities will involve an opportunity for students and family groups to interact, which is not easy to do in our location, and will have leadership involvement from the Traditional Owners, Elders and Ranger groups.
