Do you like secret codes, invisible ink, and outer space? Then get ready—because during Science Week, students from Year 1 to Year 6 will become space scientists and UV detectives in our hands-on STEM activity: Galactic UV Light Secret Messages!

What’s the Big Idea?

Have you ever heard of UV light? It’s a type of light we can’t see with our eyes—but it’s everywhere! Scientists use it to discover amazing things in space, like glowing stars, galaxies, and hidden planets.

In this activity, you’ll learn what UV (ultraviolet) light is, how it’s different from regular light, and how real astronomers use it to unlock the mysteries of the universe. Then you’ll grab some cool UV tools to write invisible space messages—just like a scientist or even a space spy!

What Will We Do?

1. Light & Space Warm-Up
We’ll kick things off with a fun NASA video that shows how UV light helps scientists spot things in space that we’d never see otherwise.

2. Secret UV Messages
Write your own space-themed message (like planet names, constellations, or riddles) using invisible UV pens. Then swap with a partner and use UV flashlights to reveal each other’s secrets!

3. If we have time!
Use photochromic powder—special stuff that changes colour under UV light—to create glowing space art like stars, rockets, and planets.

What Will We Learn?

  • What UV light is and why it’s invisible
  • How space objects glow in UV light
  • How scientists use UV light to explore space
  • How invisible ink and colour-changing materials work

Why This Project Is Awesome

You’ll experiment like a scientist, explore like an astronaut, and create glowing art using real science tools. It’s fun, creative, and full of surprises!

Get ready to unlock the invisible secrets of the universe—one glowing message at a time.
