Since 2015, the Digital Earth Australia (DEA) team at Geoscience Australia has been producing continental scale earth observation (EO) products for the historical characterisation and ongoing monitoring of the Australian coastal region. Their products and workflows are focused on leveraging petabytes of analysis ready (ARD) EO data, innovative methods for dealing with noise and environmental variability, and a commitment to open-source code, methods and data access. This talk will introduce the complementary products and approaches they have used to tackle one of the most varied coastal and tidal environments in the world and demonstrate the wide range of uptake and use cases achieved across government, industry and academia.
Presenter:
Stephen Sagar has led the Coastal Team within the Digital Earth Australia program since 2015, with a focus on providing open-source earth observation (EO) products and tools for historical characterisation and ongoing monitoring of the Australian Coast. He has worked in many iterations of the remote sensing Branch within Geoscience Australia since 2007 and has been part of its development from a data provider to a leader in Earth Observation science both nationally and internationally. Steve has a background and PhD in shallow water remote sensing applications and has led the Coastal team through the release of a number of foundational coastal EO products, including DEA Coastlines and the DEA Intertidal Suite.
The public talk will be held in the Sir Harold Raggatt Theatre at Geoscience Australia. Free parking is available. There are accessible spaces available in both the visitor and staff carparks. All indoor public areas are accessible by wheelchair. Please be aware that there are a variety of floor coverings, including stone, timber and loop and high-pile carpets.
