Kindergarten-aged children are the next generation of researchers, scientific explorers and theorists. Our goal as early childhood educators is to light the spark of curiosity and interest in the field of science so they develop a strong foundation of scientific learning and skills which they can build on later in their educational journey. This National Science week we will be exploring the wonders of nature. We will provide the children within our service the opportunity to engage in a variety of learning experiences that ignite their senses and scientific curiosity. We will develop skills of observation, prediction, recording and analyzing data in an age-appropriate and exciting way. We will run a week-long intensive focusing on exploring and engaging with nature with a scientific mindset, which we hope will inspire the children's interest beyond just one week. We will include activities such as fruit and vegetable printing, nature paint brushes, nature collage, nature observation where we look at the colour, size and texture of the natural world. We will use bush tucker in cooking and look at how First Nations People use the natural world to support their existence. We will take a walk on Country and gather natural items to use for artmaking. We will observe bird and insect life in our environment. We will showcase our learning to families and encourage them to join in nature play and science activities. We will share local nature spots for families to visit. We will delve into how humans impact the environment and how we can make a positive impact in collaboration with our sustainability partners "Dragon Fields Farm".
