Get ready to dig deep and blast off! In celebration of National Science Week 2025, Rendelsham Primary is hosting a whole-school science fair where students become scientists for the day. Linked to this year’s theme, “Decoding the Universe – Exploring the unknown with nature's hidden language,” each hands-on activity helps us uncover secrets from the past and imagine the future.
We'll start by excavating dinosaur bones and cracking open handmade fossil eggs—just like real paleontologists. Students will explore the explosive power of volcanoes and learn how volcanic soil could help us grow food on planets like Mars. They'll engineer earthquake-resistant buildings and test them, thinking like designers of future space cities. We’ll grow sparkling crystals, discovering how nature builds in silence—like the mysterious forces in space. Then we’ll simulate meteorite impacts, exploring how space rocks shape planets and how this links to farming in space.
To finish our day of discovery, students will present their projects in a whole-school science showcase at 1:40pm on Wednesday in Week 4. Families and community members are warmly invited to join us for science experiments, student displays, and some exciting rocket races!
