Kalkie State School students are in for an unforgettable two-day science immersion experience designed to ignite curiosity and inspire young minds! Camp Cosmos is a dynamic, hands-on event aligned with the 2025 National Science Week school's theme, "Decoding the Universe – Exploring the Unknown." This event invites year 4 students to step into the shoes of scientists and explorers as they investigate the mysteries of space, Earth, and technology.

Students will visit CQ University to meet with Dr Michelle Vanderberg, an expert in educational drone technology. During this excursion, students will explore how drones are used in scientific research and environmental
monitoring. They'll even get hands-on experience piloting drones, decoding how these high-tech tools help us explore and understand our world from above—perfectly tying into the theme of exploring the unknown.

The adventure continues with engaging evening activities under the stars. Students will use technology to explore the night sky and identify planets and constellations, linking directly to their Earth and Space Science unit. The
evening also includes interactive science sessions led by visiting educator and astronomer Paul Brandon from Kepnock State High School.

The following day kicks off with a full schedule of rotational science activities. These practical, curriculum-aligned sessions are designed to deepen students’ understanding of Earth and space concepts through experimentation, observation, and teamwork. From decoding planetary systems to hands-on investigations, students will be immersed in scientific thinking all day long.
