What do animal tracks, bubble rainbows, balloon buggies and lava lamps have in common? They're all part of one epic day of science, storytelling and hands-on discovery!
In “Book an Adventure & Decode the Universe,” our whole-school Learning Journey turns every classroom into a lab, linking National Science Week and Book Week through experiments inspired by science-themed stories. Students from Kindy to Year 6 will investigate real-world science concepts—like motion, gravity, forces, light and magnetism—by planning and conducting their own group experiments.
Classes will kick off the day with a themed story and video, linking literature to scientific thinking. Then, it’s goggles on! Students will rotate through experiments such as building bridges from spaghetti, making mini volcanoes erupt, designing glowing ping-pong planets, testing homemade parachutes, and creating colourful skittle reactions. Each activity is designed to develop prediction, observation and communication skills—captured on iPads as digital science stories.
In the afternoon, students will display their projects and take part in a whole-school walkthrough. Parents and carers are invited to join in the adventure, with cultural connections, First Nations science, inclusive design and sensory-friendly learning experiences embedded throughout.
Science comes to life in this vibrant, accessible event where every student gets to explore the unknown—and learn that the universe can be decoded through curiosity, creativity and collaboration.
