Get ready for an exciting and hands-on week of science! Fortitude Valley State Secondary College is celebrating National Science Week 2025 with a huge variety of activities designed to spark curiosity and show that science is for everyone.

During the week, students will take part in special in-class activities. Year 7 students will explore static electricity in the “Kissing Balloons and Garbage Bags” experiment, discovering how simple materials can create surprising effects. Year 8 students will light up the lab with the Flame Test, learning how different elements burn with their own unique colours. Year 9 students will unlock the secrets to making hidden messages during the Invisible Ink Experiment, while Year 10 students will dive into the fascinating world of physics in a live Quantum Mechanics Talk with a guest Professor.

At break times, the fun continues with Elephant Toothpaste, fireballs, dissections, forces, rubbish relay with the ecomarines team and a Rocket Launch finale with another guest.

Students will also step inside the amazing Giant Dome, an inflatable planetarium that brings the wonders of space and astronomy to life in a 360° experience. Across the week, there’s something for everyone—eye-catching experiments, chances to learn from real scientists, and plenty of opportunities to get involved. By mixing demonstrations, games, and real science talks, Science Week 2025 will inspire students to think, experiment, and imagine the possibilities of science in their everyday lives.
