The BIG Science Fair is open to students from years 5 to 12 on the North West and West Coasts of Tasmania. This event provides students with the opportunity to apply the skills they are learning in school through hands-on projects, explore intriguing science or engineering topics, and practice their communication abilities. Participants will be recognised for their hard work and curiosity.
The Science Fair offers businesses, industries, and community members an excellent opportunity to support the development of future scientists and engineers while engaging with young people. The community can get involved in various ways, such as sponsoring awards or the event itself, running activities, volunteering, or judging. There is something for everyone!
This event facilitates collaboration among schools, businesses, industries, and the broader community, ensuring that all students get a chance to engage and connect with future employers, career opportunities, and educational pathways while testing their skills.
Every year, the BIG Science Fair showcases hundreds of young STEM innovators from the North West and West Coasts. In addition to this event, students in Tasmania can participate in state-wide, national, and even worldwide STEM competitions. We have introduced new project categories aligned with the International Science and Engineering Fair to better align with these exciting opportunities.
The BIG Science Fair will be held in the Town Hall and Long Room at the Burnie Arts Centre and the venue is wheelchair accessible. There is parking via King or Jones Street to the main car park and building entry - just purchase ticket and display on dashboard or use the EasyPark app. There are three disabled parking bays outside the venue and two outside the Burnie Regional Museum.
