Decoding the Universe? What does that mean?
Palmyra Primary School are organising an opportunity to find out.
During our discovery evening the community will have an opportunity to learn that it is the small things that have come together to create the big picture. Similar to how meaning is derived from the dashes and dots in morse code, parents will be educated how basic concepts and principles of science explain the existence of the universe and our place on Earth.
Participating parents and students will be organised into small groups where they will visit twelve different stations along the school veranda. Each station consists of volunteering students from different year levels. The groups will explain fundamental learning concepts using experiments, diagrams, models and posters to assist understanding.
The learning journey will begins with the interaction of matter and energy in the aftermath of the Big Bang; including the cooling of hydrogen and helium atoms, the formation of galaxies and the creation of the Solar System.
It will continue with the history of the Earth, including the suitable conditions that eventually lead to the ‘explosion of life’ during the Cambria Period. The audience will also be learning about what distinguishes living things and despite many extinctual events that have occurred, it is evolution that has allowed the survival of plants and animals we see today. Finally, the audience will learn about the importance of sustainable practices and renewable energy to allow the continued progress of humanity.
