Science Day at Cooktown State School

  • - (AEST)
  • Cooktown State School
10 Charles Street, Cooktown QLD 4895, Australia

From fizzing foams to flying rockets, Science Week is a celebration of curiosity and creativity – reminding students that every great discovery begins with a simple question: “Why?”

During Science Week, students will embark on an exciting rotation through four hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity and ignite a love for scientific discovery. Each station encourages students to ask the powerful question, “Why?”, as they explore the wonders of chemistry, physics, and earth science.

  • Sugar Water Rainbows – Students discover the magic of density by layering colourful sugar solutions to create beautiful liquid rainbows.
  • Elephant’s Toothpaste – An explosive chemical reaction brings learning to life as students create a foamy eruption right before their eyes!
  • Digging for Fossils – Young palaeontologists unearth hidden treasures, exploring the past and learning how fossils tell the story of our planet.
  • Bottle Rockets – Physics took flight as students launch rockets into the air, experimenting with air pressure and propulsion.

And for an added thrill, students will visit the Senior Science Labs, where they will explore flame colours in a fiery display of elements at work – a brilliant finale to leave them wide-eyed and wondering.
