Have you ever picked up a pinecone and wondered why you can see spirals? Perhaps you have noticed how tree branches become thinner as they reach into the sky.

There are patterns in nature all around us. In this online workshop, we will unpack the functions of these patterns and explore how they can spark biomimetic design ideas. This National Science Week, delve into the fascinating world of Biomimicry and discover how nature can inspire creative design to solve complex problems.

Students will:

• Discover what Biomimicry is and why it is a leader in sustainable design.
• Learn the skills needed to practice Biomimicry.
• Explore the functions of nature’s patterns with our special guest, Laura Simmons, RBGV Research Scientist in Conservation Genetics.
• Be set up with a Biomimicry Design Challenge to work on after the webinar.
