Blast Off with Satellite IoT (Internet of Things) in Port Augusta!

Imagine building your own gadgets that talk to satellites orbiting Earth. That's what 45 awesome young people aged 10-15 from disadvantaged Indigenous communities in the Port Augusta region will do in this exciting program. Partnering with STEMSEL Foundation and Myriota IoT satellites, we're making cutting-edge satellite IoT technology accessible for young people.

Over two exciting weeks, meeting one day a week, these students, with mentors and university students from Adelaide, will become junior engineers. They'll use "runlinc" – a super cool, web-based tool – to quickly design and program their own IoT projects. With new runlinc Assistant they can use simple language prompts.

On August 8, teams will create STEMM Satellite IoT Projects focused on Environment, Sustainability, Energy Saving, and Climate Change. They'll build devices to send real-time sensor data like temperature or water levels to Myriota Satellites. Plus, they'll create web pages to display their data with GPS maps, sensor graphs, and AI alerts.

On August 15, the teams will present their projects at a school assembly in Port Augusta. Afterwards, the Port Augusta community will be invited to an open day to see these incredible inventions.

The adventure continues when their working models are entered into the Royal Adelaide Show Inventors Competitions. They'll be displayed for nine days, inspiring thousands of visitors. The Royal Adelaide Show has even sponsored tickets for the participants to talk about their amazing inventions!

Beyond-the-classroom learning sparks greater interest in science and mathematics education and careers. This program encourages discussions on science-related issues like global warming and promotes science-based careers through mentorship.

Get ready for a blast of innovation and inspiration!
