Setting the Scene ('of the crime')....

For this week only, the Science room at our Primary School will be transformed into a Museum of Natural History. Students from years 1-6 are invited to take a walk through time to explore this year’s Science Week theme, ‘Decoding the Universe.’

Learning Areas

The week, we bring together the four strands of science: Earth & Space, the Quantum world of Physics, chemical understandings of matter and the world around us, and Biology. With an authentic array of activities, the event brings science and history into the limelight, with a little sprinkling of magical Maths! Join us as we walk scientifically through the eras of the Big Bang, the Big numbers, the Big Boned and Big footprints, reflecting the significance of Mathematics and History in Science education.

Mission

Unfortunately, upon arriving to the museum, students find it closed, and the Curator is in a panic!

A new artefact has gone missing and had not even had the chance to be unpacked, sent in a rushed panic by a (now) missing paleontologist!

Under a shadow of mysterious circumstances, armed with half a letter and a trail of suspicious evidence, students are invited inside as forensic scientists and investigators to work their way from ‘room to room,’ through the museum, completing activities to make observations, look for clues and solve the mystery …. what is this mysterious cosmic relic, what might it look like and where might it be?

Conclusion

At the end of the session, students will be given a chance to showcase their findings and sketched image to the class and contribute to building a wall of knowledge with all the words/facts or information they gained along the way. There will be competitions, prize draws and feedback opportunities after the event. No-one will guess who the thieves were!!!
