We are exploring how scientific knowledge and understanding have evolved to enhance plant growth. Our students will collect data on plant development and apply scientific reasoning to improve growth outcomes. They will investigate the impact of variables such as soil type, water availability, and temperature on plant growth.

To do this, we will grow identical seedlings under three different conditions:

  1. Hydroponic garden – where we can control light, water intake, and temperature precisely.

  2. Mini greenhouse – where seedlings will be monitored using Microbits and sensor kits. Students will use Microsoft MakeCode to program the Microbits to detect and report soil moisture levels.

  3. Traditional pots – where seedlings will be watered regularly with minimal monitoring.

Students will compare growth across these systems and evaluate which method had the most significant effect. Throughout the project, they will consider how Mathematics and Technology can be applied to analyse data and enhance scientific outcomes.
