Come along to Caulfield South Community House for our Seeds – From Swap to Sprout open day and take the opportunity to learn all about seed saving and propagation, with activities and workshops for all ages!
Join Ashton from Urban Guerrillas and Griffin (@invasive_replace) for a native plant propagation workshop, where you can learn different methods to propagate and grow locally indigenous and threatened plants, and take home the plants you’ve prepared! In this hands-on workshop, we'll discuss the significance of growing indigenous plants, how to know which species suit your needs, and where to get all the information you might need. You will also learn techniques for propagation from seed and cuttings
Drop into a seed-saving demonstration, which will take you through how to identify when seeds are ready to collect, different methods for seed saving, and how to store your seeds until it’s time to plant them!
We’ll also have activities for the whole family. Take part in a seed-bomb making workshop, where you’ll have the opportunity to make your own custom seed mixes, and a propagation workshop where you can plant seeds of your choice to take home and watch as they sprout. Once they’ve grown and go to seed, you can apply the knowledge from the seed-saving demonstration to continue growing them. We’ll also have seed paper making, a tomato seed station and a BBQ.
To round the day off, we’ll have a Seed Swap, where you can bring seeds from home to swap with the community, or pick up seed packets prepared by our garden teams to grow at home.
