Lunchbreak Labs: Decoding the Scientific Secrets of Our Universe
Science Week 2025

During Science Week, our Biology Lab will become a hub of hands-on discovery with Lunchbreak Labs — two lunchtimes of interactive science stations designed to uncover the hidden workings of our universe.

Students will explore, question, and experiment at their own pace, moving between stations that bring science concepts to life in fun and surprising ways:

Microscopes & Mini Worlds – Discover the hidden life inside a drop of pond water. Spot tiny creatures and explore whole ecosystems invisible to the naked eye.

Magnets & Magnetic Fields – Experiment with magnets to observe invisible forces in action. Explore poles, magnetic fields, and how magnets are used in electric motors.

What is a Vacuum? – Using a vacuum pump and chamber, see what happens to balloons, marshmallows, water, bubble mix and even a bell when air is removed.

The Periodic Table – Examine real element samples and learn how the elements around us are used in everyday objects and technology.

Crookes Radiometer – A curious spinning device powered by light. Can you work out how and why it works? Or is it still a scientific mystery?

The Science of Popping Candy – Explore the chemistry behind this crackling treat. What makes it pop in your mouth? Investigate pressure, gas, and solubility – with something tasty to try.

Magical Maths – Try maths "tricks" that can guess your age, predict your shoe size, or always lead to the same number. Is it magic or just clever number patterns?

Lunchbreak Labs is a chance to get hands-on, ask questions, and see science in action — all during lunch. Don’t miss your chance to decode the universe!
