Explore the unknown...
As part of National Science Week 2025, SPARQ-ed and The University of Queensland are proud to present a unique 2-day hands-on experience designed specifically for First Nations high school students. This immersive event aims to spark curiosity, build confidence, and open pathways to STEM futures by connecting students with the world of biomedical and translational research.
Held in a state-of-the-art PC2 biomedical research laboratory, the program offers students a rare opportunity to explore how STEM subjects at school translate into real-world careers in science and health. Participants will learn about the role biomedical science plays in improving health outcomes and have the chance to work with professional research equipment in a supportive and inspiring university environment.
This experience also focuses on reducing barriers to higher education, helping students become more comfortable in new spaces, with new people, and with unfamiliar tools. By interacting with renowned scientists, university staff, and special guests from Deadly Science, students will broaden their perspectives and strengthen their confidence.
Another highlight of the event is the chance to connect with peers from other schools, forming a supportive network of like-minded young people passionate about STEM.
