Dubbo Observatory have a number of reflector and refractor telescopes on outdoor mounts, as well as a 17″ reflector in a dome.
Night sky tours are conducted outdoors with a laser pointer, as well as with telescope viewing, with 6 guests sharing each telescope. The shows start 90 minutes after sunset and they last for at least an hour.
In daytime solar viewing sessions you will be able to see the Sun and any sunspots, prominences and flares with telescopes using special solar filters. Additionally there may be some bright stars and planets to observe.
In special two-hour astrophotography sessions you can use your own DSLR or mirrorless camera in combination with a telescope to capture images of celestial objects. You will need to know how to manually adjust the various camera settings.
The observatory is open every night weather permitting. Check the website during the day for that night. Be sure to wear enclosed shoes and dress warmly in winter. Bookings recommended and admission fees apply.
