The New Parents’ Relaxation Toolkit

  • - (AEST)
  • tagari lia Child and Family Learning Centre
23 Green Point Rd, Bridgewater TAS 7030, Australia

Calling all new parents! Join Penny Jones, Harry Edwards and Isaac Gee for a deep dive into the art and science of relaxation.

Our nervous systems are amazing, highly evolved networks that developed to keep us safe, and they do! Yet in our modern world, many of us find our nervous systems under too much load – activated too often, and too much. This is particularly so for new parents faced with sleep deprivation, and many new demands!

With this in mind, this event is designed especially for parents of babies aged 0-2.

It will weave storytelling, therapeutic music, discussion, evidence-based breathing and yoga to open up new ways to understand, and work with, your nervous system.

You’ll learn what happens in a stress response, why we can’t just ‘think our way out of them’, and practical, parent-friendly strategies and tools. Through interactive discussion, we'll explore how to work with stress responses in the moment, as well as how to foster a flexible nervous system over the long term. You’ll also learn, and experience, the art of deep, restorative rest. After our discussion, we’ll immerse you in music therapy, breathing and yoga practices specifically designed to stimulate your ‘rest and digest’ response. We will finish with tea, snacks and time to chat.

We'll send you home with your own toolkit of ideas and practices. We hope you’ll join us on this adventure into our nervous systems, and come away nourished, informed, and ready to know, love and nurture your nervous system to cope with the demands of parenting in our modern world.

Yoga mats and props are provided, but feel free to bring your own. The yoga will be very gentle and suitable for all bodies.

Free childcare available EXCEPT for the Peacock event, but non-mobile babies are welcome in the session.

Many thanks to Inspiring Tasmania for funding this event.
