The Aquarium of Western Australia welcomes schools and education groups to celebrate National Science Week with us by booking into Wildlife Rescue; an inspiring half day program that focuses on sustainability & conservation, using ever-popular sea turtles (which are keystone species) as case study.
Inspire your students to become self-motivated environmental guardians with our turtle themed education program, crafted for all ages and fully guided by AQWA's knowledgeable Education Team.
Students will transform into turtle experts as they explore everything from the distinct features & adaptations of sea turtles, to their varying habitats, and the man-made threats to their survival. Importantly, students discover the unique roles of keystone species within ecosystems and their interconnectedness to other life.
A pro-active approach to sustainability and ethics is taken, with both a pre-program activity recommended to exercise personal responsibility and capabilities (see flyer) and hands-on activities included, which develop real world conservation skills. Guided portion of program includes a themed talk, tour of turtle rescue pool to see conservation in action* and hands-on activities that require students to become turtle researchers.
The program is available to book Monday - Friday during National Science Week and suitable for all primary students in Years PP-6, with content, activities and curriculum links tailored to suit your booked group. The year group/s you select in your booking (PP-2, 3-4 or 5-6) will dictate the theming and content of the structured talks and activities delivered on the day.
*Rescue turtles may not always be on display in the Turtle Rescue Pool - that's actually a good thing. It means no turtles are needing rehabilitation right now. If no turtles are on exhibit, tour will continue with content and utilisation of signage and models.
Fee includes AQWA entry and full day guided education program. Teachers free for up to a maximum of 1:5 students for Year PP-2 and 1:10 students for Year 3-6. Min. 15 students to book. Parking free.
AQWA - The Aquarium of Western Australia is located within Hillarys Boat Harbour. Visitors report to Reception upon arrival. Stair and ramp access. Open 9am-4pm daily.
