The Kauwi Interpretive Centre next to the desalination plant has displays about desalination as well as the story of water in South Australia.

The Adelaide Desalination Plant opened in 2013 and can provide half of Adelaide’s water supply. The plant uses reverse osmosis to produce fresh drinking water from seawater.

Plant tours last for 1.5 hours and are for a maximum 30 people. Children must be older than 8 years and be accompanied by an adult. All visitors must wear flat enclosed footwear.

The tours are free, but they only take place on selected days and must be booked in advance.
