Join us in Boulia for the next stop of our travelling launch of National Science Week 2025, celebrating the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in the outback town famous for its mysterious Min Min lights, ancient landscapes, and spectacular skies.

We’ll gather at the Boulia Shire Hall, a central meeting place in this remote community known for its rich Indigenous heritage and fossil discoveries. Boulia’s connection to deep time and natural wonders makes it a unique and inspiring location to spark curiosity and celebrate STEM.

Speakers:

  • Cr Rick Britton, Mayor of Boulia Shire Council, will reflect on the region’s leadership in science, sustainability, and community engagement.
  • Liza Cameron, Manager of CUC RAPAD CWQ, will share how regional study hubs are transforming access to higher education across Central West Queensland, empowering students to pursue STEM careers without leaving their communities.
  • Dr Christina Zdenek (UQ, UniSQ), ecologist and snake expert, will reveal how science helps us understand and protect Australia’s wildlife.
  • David Corporal (Boeing, QUT), Eastern Arrernte man and mechanical engineer, will discuss engineering, space, his NASA internship, and his 25-year plan to become an astronaut.
  • Luis Villegas-Aguilar (GU), quantum physicist, will explore quantum networks and how entangled particles can revolutionise secure communication.
  • Dr Anita K Milroy (UQ), Inspiring Australia QLD Manager, will reflect on science engagement and her research in fossils, synchrotron radiation, and ArtSci.
