CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, invites you to step aboard Australia’s advanced ocean research vessel, RV Investigator, while it’s in Hobart between research voyages.
This 94-metre super science ship is packed with state-of-the-art equipment to enable vital ocean and atmospheric research for Australia. RV Investigator is a national workhorse for science and can travel over 10,000 nautical miles on a single voyage, carrying up to 60 scientists, technicians and crew on incredible voyages of exploration and discovery. The vessel delivers geoscience, atmospheric, biological, oceanographic and underwater cultural heritage research from the equator to the Antarctic ice-edge.
RV Investigator is part of the Marine National Facility, national collaborative research infrastructure funded by the Australian Government through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy and operated by CSIRO on behalf of the nation.
Take this rare opportunity to step onboard and tour RV Investigator. Explore above and below decks to discover the latest in marine science equipment and technology. Speak with our expert researchers, technicians and crew about their unique work conducting science at sea.
